My Story

Onyx is a 5-year-old, 60-pound Shepherd x looking for a home to call his own! He is shy dog and he is generally quiet and reserved with people.

Onyx had a really hard start in life, and it took some time and lots of love for him to start realizing that not all people are bad after all. He thinks that butt scratches are the best thing in the world and he will rub on you to get some more! He is fan-tas-tic with other dogs! Big, small, tiny, it doesn’t matter to him. They are all friends. I think he will do very well in a home where he can get a doggy friend to show him the ropes. He is okay with kitties as well but he will most likely try to play with them! So dog-savvy cats are a must!

Onyx is best with kids in the teen years and up as he does not handle a lot of screechiness, so sullen teens glued to their phones are perfect. He is well-mannered and has a habit of rubbing all over you like a cat would do when he wants attention. This is a dog that would be best in a very low key home with minimal comings and goings, and patient people who understand that it will take time fo him to come out of his shell. If you are the key master and host parties every weekend, this is not your dog. A home with a dog friend, a fenced yard and mellow people who are content to let the dog come to them would be ideal.
This dog absolutely will be devoted to his people and he does enjoy going places and seeing things, and he is a hiking champ. He just doesn’t want a ton of people in and out of his house.
