My Story

Meet Maxine. Everyone needs a girlfriend like the peppy, past-puppy Maxine. She’s a good, medium sized 60 lb. girl who is, we guess, around 7. No shoe stealing, I phone chewing, sandwich grabbing antics for this girl. She’d like a good walk or two and/or some leisurely lopes around in a fenced yard. She’s a practiced camper and she loves it. She is glad to see you, but she doesn’t jump on you. She’d love some pets, but she doesn’t make pokey-nose demands. “Incredibly mellow,” says foster.

Foster dad says she is especially gentle in her approaches which would make her a wonderful companion for those folks who are a little on past puppyhood themselves. In fact, foster dad says, she is “PERFECT” (his caps) except if she is left alone. Maxine really loves her people and wants to be where they are. Her past isn’t far enough behind her yet to have forgotten being abandoned. That takes a little time, a predictable routine with the food showing up about the same time every day. With time and patience, pets and treats, walks and praise, little by little, bad times are forgotten. It’s all about making new memories. But you know that already.

It would be nice for Maxine to have a dog buddy to show her how this is all really supposed to work and to keep her company when her family is away and/or someone who is home more often than not and would love to hear some friendly furry footfalls on a quiet spring afternoon. We also think she’d love a friendly dog pal about her size to walk and nap with. Maxine is a gentle lady, not a bit catty. No catties for her. No sir.

In fact, this girl so loves human presence and touch, if you have ever wanted to be a therapy dog partner, she sounds like a good one to sign up for classes. She would also take comfort in bringing comfort to senior living centers, hospitals or schools. How much better does it get than to be in the middle of all that?

If all that weren’t enough, there are a couple of extra bonuses. 1. She loves listening to tunes. So pull out your old guitar or buy a new one. 2. She keeps her lovely, soft, red coat short and thoughtfully low maintenance.
