My Story

Leo is a one year old alleged Leonberger mix. It’s possible but he’s on the smallish side for a Leo (70 pounds) and his parents have yet to come claim him so absent DNA, we’ll never know for sure.

Leo is a happy, friendly dog who loves people and other dogs. He is good on a leash although his nose seems glued to the ground as if he was an airport sniffing dog. He loves to play and is prone to sudden attacks of throwing himself on the ground and rolling over for tummy petting. He lacks any sense of your space and mine and does not understand the basic laws of physics that says only one form of matter can occupy space. I defy Neil de Grasse to explain this to Leo when he wants to be on the exact spot you’re sitting in. He may be part magpie as he went straight to nibble on my wedding ring because it was sparkly. Leo is fine with kids over the age of 8 (he has seen no kids younger than this as I have none to offer up as sacrifice to test him with) and he has been indifferent to the cat.

Leo has generally good manners although I would not trust him with an unattended sandwich and I certainly would not trust him off leash. A fenced yard is a great idea for this guy. With a little introduction to your home and rules, he will make a nice pet for a lot of families. He sheds and he is not hypoallergenic so people with those concerns should look at other breeds.
