My Story

Heff is a 7-year-old, 90-pound catahoula/American bulldog mix. He came to us along with a couple of other dogs out of a truly miserable hoarding case. His owner was an alcoholic man who was squatting in a burned-out trailer in truly squalid condition. He died leaving no one to care for the dogs and we got contacted.
All the other dogs have gone home but not Heff. Heff is channeling a grouchy old man who wants to be left to nap and have some snacks and not be bothered. This is the dog version of the get off my lawn guy. In Heff’s ideal world, he wants a sofa to hang out on with someone to hang out with who is a homebody. This is definitely not the dog for someone who has tons of traffic in and out of the house and he is not a social butterfly. This is a dog for a lazy adult with a fenced yard who wants to putter around in the back yard, sit in a lawn chair and watch the clouds go by with a dog at their side.
Heff can do well with other dogs and did for his entire life, but any dog in his orbit needs to be mellow and of his size. I would not put him with small dogs. I don’t think he’s ever been around children and I wouldn’t start with them now.
If you are Heff’s person, you are the center of his universe and he will love you without limit. The rest of us exist to pay the mortgage and provide food for him and are tolerated. Heff has been with us for a while now and I would love to see him find his place. This dog will make the right someone an absolutely fantastic companion.
