My Story

Meet Heather: The Sweet and Smart Deaf Heeler Mix Looking for Her Forever Home!

Name: Heather
Age: 3-4 Years
Weight: 55 Pounds
Breed: Blue Heeler/Corgi/Something Awesome Mix

Heather’s journey began in a challenging hoarding case, but she’s ready to start a new chapter filled with love and joy. This lovely girl is deaf, though she can sometimes hear very loud sounds. Her inability to hear everyday noises can be both a blessing (no Fourth of July fear) and a challenge. Despite this, Heather excels in communication, quickly learning signs like sit, lie down, stay, come, and be quiet.

Here’s what makes Heather special:

Calm and Well-Mannered: Heather is a model of good behavior, combining a love for play and fetch with the ability to relax and nap on a comfy bed.
Leash Superstar: She’s a dream on a leash and enjoys walks and car rides.
Social Butterfly: Heather loves playing with toys and other dogs, especially those who enjoy a good rough-and-tumble. She can also entertain herself or take a home office nap.
Perfect for a Netflix Buddy: She’s a fan of snuggling up for a binge-watch session.
No Cats, Please: Heather isn’t suited for homes with cats, rabbits, or poultry.
Ideal Family: She’s great with kids over 10 who understand how to approach dogs gently. She prefers a consistent home environment with fewer visitors.
Safety First: Due to her deafness, Heather needs to be on a leash when outside to protect her from potential dangers like cars.

Heather with a Heart:
Some wear their heart on their sleeves. Heather wears hers on her forehead for everyone to see. This is one of the ways she communicates with the world. For her and her fosters, this has only ever been seen as a positive. Heather is one of the best communicators this foster mom has ever known. She knows many signs and easily learns new ones. She connects with eye contact and love.

Having a deaf dog has many advantages. The 4th of July and thunderstorms are not scary. She cannot hear the mailman from a mile away or any other delivery truck. When she sees someone coming, she does bark to protect the home and let you know someone is there, but only if she sees it.

Heather is a perfect lady in the home. She cuddles, loves tennis balls, and is a champion napper and sleeper. She likes to play with other dogs and has done fine with guest dogs and fosters in our home.

Because she is deaf, Heather would do best in a home without small children and with less frequent visitors. She prefers a more consistent home and family life. She does not mind being home alone while you are out, but also loves a car ride. And a good walk or zoomies with a tennis ball in a fenced area. Heather would do best in a suburban or rural environment.

Heather with a Heart is waiting for her forever home. If you’re looking for a special, well-mannered, and loving dog, Heather might be your perfect match. She would thrive in a suburban or rural environment.
