My Story

Darling Able is a 2 year old, 50 lb, Pointer/Lab/Hound mix of sorts who more than compensates for his dubious genetic origins with his absolutely stellar soul and personality.

Able is a gentle-natured, loving pup who came to us with his three other brothers from some pretty grim circumstances. As a holdover from his former life, Able remains on the shyer side, overall, and still greatly prefers women to men. Though he is able to warm up to men who move slowly with him and who are patient and soft-spoken. Prior to coming to BFDR, Able had never lived in a home and had never been treated kindly by humans.

Once Able warms up to you, you will have a friend for life. This boy, at his core, is an incredibly sweet, devoted, loving guy who wants nothing more than to dote upon you.

Able is fine with all other dogs and would actually do best in a forever home with another calm, quiet dog to hang with and love on. Other dogs seem to make Able feel secure and at present, his doggie foster brothers are hard at work helping Able build up his confidence again. Able also relishes in romping and wrestling and playing with his foster doggie siblings and while he is on the lower side of medium energy, he does benefit from Wrestlemania re-enactment every now and again. Able is also fine with cats and is currently happily living in a foster home with several other farm-bound species like chickens and the like.

Able is house and crate trained and he walks well on the leash. He does well crated, at home, while he parents work and is okay to be left alone anywhere from 5 to 8 hours a day. Able is working hard on mastering basic commands and doing well. Able is very smart and inquisitive and when he trusts you, he is willing and ready to master just about any trick you wish to throw at him.

Able requires a patient, loving family who will continue to work with him to help him regain confidence and learn to trust again. With TLC, Able will undoubtedly grow in to a wonderful companion. He has come so far already and deserves a forever home willing and able to help him overcome his last hurdles of fearfulness.
