My Story

Braxton is truly a mutt in the sense that we have no idea what his mix is. When we rescued him and his siblings, they were suffering from an extreme case of mange and barely even looked like dogs. Now that he has fully recovered, his coat doesn’t give us many more hints, being mostly black with highlights of red brindle and a white blaze on his chest. However, we have noticed that he is extremely smart, protective of his “pack” and seems to really gravitate towards larger shepherd type dogs, so we’re guessing there’s some shepherd in his lineage somewhere. However, he is a pint sized guy at 9 months and only around 35-40ish pounds.

Braxton is a very social and engaged guy who wants to be involved in whatever is happening. He loves the company of people and other playful dogs alike. He can get a bit excited and rough while playing, but takes redirection well from both people and dogs. He wants to be friends with cats, most of them aren’t too sure about him, though. He has lived successfully with dog-savvy cats.

Braxton is borderline genius and this level of intelligence can get him into trouble if not properly directed. He can get bored, so he will need an active family who loves working breeds and can keep his mind as exercised as his body. He knows all his basic commands already, he is housebroken and fine in a crate for for shorter periods (not all day while you are at work). He is in his “teenage” phase and will definitely try to push his boundaries, but with a confident leader he will fall into line.

Braxton loves to run around, play, and swim. He would excel in a home with a fenced in yard, another dog to play with, structure and routine, and confident owners. And hey, if you have a pool, pond, lake (or even a big enough water trough) Braxton will be your new best friend!
