My Story

Trooper and his brother, Storm, were originally purchased by a family when they were young puppies, and spent their lives outdoors. The family eventually surrendered them to rescue, recognizing that they didn’t have the time to devote that the boys needed. Off to the kennel they went, ready to start their paths to their happily-ever-after. After a brief stint at the kennel, Storm headed out to his forever home in Colorado, and now it’s Trooper’s turn to find his!

Trooper is a 20-month old Great Dane-lab mix. He is currently ~70 lbs, although he could stand to put on a little weight He is a calm, sweet boy who gets along with everyone. Given his size, general bounciness and desire to bestow affection on his people, older children would be best. He is curious in a new environment and loves to investigate, and readily responds to correction if he’s getting into something that he shouldn’t. Trooper is equally happy enjoying a romp outside as cuddling on his oh-so-cozy dog bed watching Netflix.

Trooper’s foster home is the first time he’s been an indoor dog, and he’s happily learning the ropes. He is already crate trained and house trained, and is even learning to tell his foster parents when it’s time to go out. Intelligent, eager to please, and food-motivated make for the perfect trifecta in terms of trainability. Trooper is a smart boy who is picking up on things very quickly. He does well on leash, but could use continued work to become great. He is afraid of some of the louder household noises (blender, vacuum, hairdryer, etc) but who can blame him given this is all so new to him.

Trooper would *love* to have a fenced in yard at his happily-ever-after. He would like an active home… but not too active! Leisurely walks are up his alley, and this lad politely declines the opportunity to be someone’s running buddy. Again, who can blame him?! A cat-free home will be in order for this pooch.
