My Story

Blake is a not quite 18 month old, 92 pound akita. He’s not quite done filling in yet and we expect him to weigh in around 100 pounds. This dog came to us from an owner who surrendered him to us when they had a new baby with some special challenges. Blake is a very good boy and he loved his family, including the new baby, but the baby had health issues that precluded him staying there. This family agonized over giving their dog up.

Blake has been with people his entire life and he is incredibly social with everyone. He is a powerful dog and lives to do stealth kisses which we are actively discouraging. Blake knows a lot of commands and will drop to a sit in a split second – faster if food is involved. He is intelligent, quick to learn and social and he needs to be in a home with people who know and understand what they are getting.

He has been with dogs, but he is a large, powerful male dog starting to come into his own and we think he would do best as an only dog. As with most akitas, this is a no cat, no small woodland creature kind of dog. He is housebroken and well-mannered aside from pulling hard on the leash, but a Walk Your Dog with Love harness puts an end to the pulling easily. We’d like to see him go to a home with a securely fenced yard and people who appreciate the adjective “active”. If you have ask if he sheds, you can’t have him.
