Words fail me today. You could be forgiven for not realizing these are dogs. We got the call from a lady we have worked with before that there were six dogs living on a remote rural property and that they would be shot if they were not removed. We went to get the dogs. What we have are five Great Pyrenees mixes who aren’t even recognizable as dogs on first glance. I cannot say I was adequately prepared for what I am seeing.
This weekend has been one of the worst I have ever had in rescue. We have one gunshot dog, two dogs hit by cars and now these dogs. So much of what we see is the result of extreme poverty and ignorance which is beyond our power to fix. This case falls into that category. All we can do is concentrate on the dogs and help the humans where we can.
These dogs are sick, have massive skin infections, are emaciated and have every parasite known to man. You can see in their expressions that they are defeated and they have given up. It is our job to bring them back. It will be expensive and time consuming, but we’ve done it before and will do it again.
If you would like to help us save these dogs, you can Donate Here
Spread the word. We need all the help we can get.
PS Law enforcement isn’t an option here. All I can do is grit my teeth and move forward.
