My Story

This red merle Australian Shepherd is Welch – he has striking heterochromia (different colored eyes) and the sweetest smile! Welch came to us as an owner surrender with another dog, when their owner had to unexpectedly leave the country. Welch is 5 years old, 80lbs, and ready to find his forever home! He is currently being fostered in TN but can go anywhere we go – BFDR is heading Northeast 8/13 weekend.
Welch is true to his aussie nature and very smart. He already knows many commands! He has mastered sit, down, stay, come, outside, inside, scoot (means get out of the way), dogs out (means get out of the kitchen).

Welch is an incredibly affectionate and cuddly boy. He loves to get in bed with people, or to snuggle on the couch with people. He also loves being groomed! He will flop over on his back or side and let you groom him. He loves the attention, and he just melts.
Welch also enjoys his exercise and toy time. He loves to fetch a tennis ball and run around in the yard. He also enjoys chewing Nylabones and Kong toys. Welch likes going for walks, he is a bit excited at first and tends to pull on the leash but calms down after a few minutes and walks nicely.

As for other animals – Welch tolerates other dogs but would prefer a home all to himself. He isn’t very interested in playing with the smaller dogs in his foster home – but perhaps would change his mind with a dog his size. He doesn’t like to share his toys/food and has shown some resource guarding. Due to that, we recommend kids over 12+. Please complete an application and then reach out to Erin@bigfluffydogs.com
