My Story

Cali is a 4 year old, 55 pound Catahoula Leopard Dog. She had a rough start to life, and was most likely used as a backyard breeder dog, as it is obvious that she has had several litters. She was eventually dumped at a rural shelter in FL, then taken in by another rescue organization before coming to us when that rescue’s founder was diagnosed with a terminal illness. Needless to say, Cali’s life has not been the smoothest so far. Despite all of that, she is a nearly perfect dog and deserves the perfect home!

Cali is calm, lovable, sweet, and quirky. She will cuddle up next to you on the floor or couch and enjoys playing and running in the fenced in yard. She will wake you up with kisses and can tell you she needs to go outside (rings a bell on the door). She knows sit and is working on stay. She walks well on leash and is house trained. She is trustworthy when left home alone loose. She is low energy and only likes to run around and play once or twice a day. She has learned the joy of chasing a tennis ball! Other times she will just wander the fenced in yard, do her business, and then sit waiting to go back inside. She loves her dog bed and her toys, especially her lamb, which she carries around and cares for.

Other dogs make Cali nervous, and although she has learned to tolerate some after slow and proper intros, we really think she would be happiest in a home with no other dogs, and older children (over 8). She is calm and likes to spend time with people, but is also okay on her own. We believe dog savvy cats would be fine.
