My Story

If there was ever a dog deserving of the pampered life, Athena would be at the forefront of contenders. Life before Big Fluffy Dog Rescue had not been the kindest to this sweet Anatolian Shepherd. She was pulled from a shelter in Tennessee with multiple maggot-infested bite wounds that we believe to be inflicted by a coyote attack. She sustained a spinal injury, possibly from the coyote attack, that has impacted her mobility. She can move around, but she saunters slowly.

Sweet and loving, Athena is the text book example of a gentle giant. Five years old and 110 lbs, Athena has a laid back disposition and is happy to sit back and take in the world around her. She’s loyal and loves her people, happy to receive and bestow affection on them.

Athena is good with all people and children of all ages. She is good with both dogs and cats. Athena is house trained and completely trustworthy to have free reign of the house when unsupervised. She does well on the leash. She is lower energy, and is perfectly content to spend her days relaxing with snuggles and belly rubs. She likes to spice things up with the occasional trip to the dog park or backyard explorations. Athena is not afraid of loud noises and does not exhibit any separation anxiety.

Given her mobility issues, her happily-ever-after will need to be a level home without stairs and one where we she could be left uncrated. She would be happiest with someone home more often than not given how much she loves to be around her family.

Athena is adoptable in the Mid-Atlantic/Southeast (AL, FL, GA, NC, SC, VA, WV). If you’re interested in adopting Athena, please complete an adoption application at www.bigfluffydogs.com, and then email kim@bigfluffydogs.com. Thank you!
